Rural Whitchurch-Stouffville Real Estate
Which came first, Whitchurch or Stouffville? The area that is now called Whitchurch Township was actually inhabited by varying native people as far back as 1500 BC. Trails made by native-cultured people and artifacts are the proof of who and when Whitchurch was inhabited. Over time, the native people moved off and the Mississaugas moved into the area. During the 17th Century, the British were busy creating and expanding land f& boundaries for the Region of York, which lead them to purchase Markham Township and the western part of Whitchurch from the Mississaugas people. At the beginning of the 18th Century, Stouffville began to take shape and become a hotspot for settlers and by 1832, the name Stouffville stuck with its residents. Both Whitchurch and Stouffville grew in population and settled businesses.
